126.138: General Phonetics
Fall 2000
General
- Syllabus -- not this year's syllabus
(yet), but at least it has my office number and what not.
Announcements
- Second transcription quiz on Friday, September 29. You should be able
to transcribe any one-syllable word of Canadian English.
Practice
Notes
Class notes: table of contents
These are notes from an earlier version of the course. They have
mostly been superseded by the readings you should pick up at the
Campus Copy Centre.
Other
- Fonts: lots of
non-English fonts for your computer here, but particularly SIL's IPA fonts
(look in the "Roman fonts" section).
- The International
Phonetics Association. Don't like having to write your r's
upside-down? Become a member and try to outvote the rest of the world
during the next round of revisions. You can get the complete up-to-date
IPA chart here too (but don't try unless you've got lots of time -- the
graphic files are huge).
