Volute ( Early Imperial ) ca. 0 – 100 AD
Lamps with volutes that extend from their nozzles are easily identified as the Early Imperial or Volute style, which was predominately, though not exclusively, produced in Italy during the first century AD. Structurally, they have a wide discus with a narrow shoulder and no handle. A high level of craftsmanship is evident in the elaborate imagery and patterns that decorate the surface. |
