About the lab

Research in the Costamagna lab focuses on processes that regulate insect populations at multiple scales in landscapes with mixed agricultural and natural habitats, with the goal of developing sustainable strategies to maximize healthy food production and promote the conservation of biodiversity. Our projects span a range of topics including ecosystem services at the landscape scale, predator-prey interactions, plant-insect interactions, natural enemy movement across multiple habitats, biological control of invasive pests, host plant resistance, economic thresholds, and sampling methodology.
