Evaluating Web Resources

The Internet is open to anyone to put up a Web page.  As a result, one must be critical of the information retrieved form the Internet.  This is particularly important for health/medical information.

As you review the various resources on the Web, keep in mind these criteria for evaluating quality:

  • Credibility (source, context, currency, relevance)
  • Content (accuracy, sources stated, evidence)
  • Disclosure (purpose of site, profiling)
  • Links (selection, architecture, content, back linkages)
  • Design (accessibility, logical organization)
  • Interactivity (feedback, chat, tailoring)
  • Caveats (product marketing or information content provider)
