John Clark and Family of Storrington Township

About 2½ miles (4 km) south of the farm of George Clark was the farm of his brother John Miller Clark (b. 1811 Lower Canada (Québec)). John's family included his wife Catharine [or Kathleen] Hogan (b. c1821 Upper Canada (Ontario)) and children James (b. c1842), Mary (b. c1845), Jane (b. c1847), Clarinda (b. c1851), John Wesley (b. c1853), Henry (b. c1855), Catharine (b. c1857), Bethuel (b. 1860), and Olive May (b. c1862). [1881 census]. John and Catherine Clark resettled their family in Bay County, Michigan, USA. This Bethuel Clark(e) settled near Warspite, Alberta, and a family link with descendents of George Clark and Martha Tuff was a recurring family legend. A brief historical sketch of the ancestry of Warspite's Bethuel Clarke described the (John) Clark family as coming from Vermont.

Reuben Clark and Family of Storrington Township

Another brother of the Caldwell Manor Clarks also settled in Storrington Township. Reuben Taylor Clark (b. 1817 Lower Canada (Québec)) and wife Christianne Ansley (b. c1822 Upper Canada (Ontario)) raised a family of about ten children (all born in Ontario): Gilbert (b. c1841), Daniel [David in some sources] (b. c1842), Maranda [or Miranda](b. c1844), Harriet (b. c1845), Hannah (b. c1848), Elgin (b. 1851), Sara (b. c1854), Reuben W. (b. c1856), Melvin (b. c1859), and Martha (b. c1861). In the 1871 and 1881 censuses Reuben & Christianne reside in Hullett Township, Huron County, Ontario. Melvin and Martha can be located in Hullett Twp. in the 1901 census.

The Clark Name in Frontenac County, Ontario

Although Clark is relatively common name in English-speaking Canada, it is especially common in Frontenac County, Ontario. This is partly due to the early settlement in area by United Empire Loyalist Robert Clark (1744-1824). Robert Clark raised three sons, the eldest of whom raised a family of twelve sons. By 1878 Robert Clark's descendents numbered more than 500. (The Historical Atlas of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Counties, 1878, p. 14.)
