Teaching Philosophy

This document will never fully match my thoughts and perspective on teaching.  Perhaps that is obvious to some people but I think it is the most important statement I can make.

As an educator my primary goal is to communicate my intentions to my students, determine what they have learned of the goals I have set, discover how their context differs from mine and remember that what I taught may not be what I intended to teach.

I believe that matching grading instruments to the material taught and the course goals is crucial to successful education.  My clear communication of a question does not hinder any student's education but rather sharpens their ability to focus on the problem and improves their recollection and processing capabilities in both the short and long term.

Lastly, having an education does not make someone educated.
