December 2009 Another Schrödinger Medal: The 2010 Schrödinger Medal of the World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists (WATOC) has been awarded to Prof. Evert Jan Baerends − my congratulations! The Schrödinger Medal is probably the highest honor that is available to researchers in the field.
December 2009 Welcome to our newest undergraduate researchers, Craig Peeples and Guy Chapellaz. Craig and Guy will formally join the group as summer students in May 2010, but we expect to notice their presence on the cluster prior to that.
November 2009 Congratulations to Samuel who has received a "Faculty of Science" scholarship!
November 2009 Congratulations to Vladimir Pomogaev who recently got a permanent position as a Senior Researcher at the Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
November 17, 2009 As of today, GS − and by extension the group − has been induced into the exclusive "Banned by Gaussian" club, i.e. Gaussian has chosen to deny us access to the software including executables.
For a bit of background on the underlying − in my view completely unreasonable and overblown − policies and related story, see the Wikipedia keyword GAUSSIAN. There are links to pertinent news magazine articles, the "Banned by Gaussian" website, and Gaussian's rebuttal thereof.
November 2009 Congratulations to Akef and Robel who received graduate scholarships from the Department of Chemistry. Specifically, Akef is a recipient of the Hugh J. Anderson Graduate Award in Chemistry, the R.H. Betts Graduate Award in Chemistry and the Ernst and Ingrid Bock Graduate Award in Chemistry, and Samuel is a recipient of the Hugh J. Anderson Graduate Award in Chemistry and the Walter and Elizabeth Rodewald Scholarship.
August 2009 Pictures from the very successful Symposium in Honor of P. Jeffrey Hay at the recent Fall 2009 ACS National Meeting in Washington DC are available at Aurora Clark's websites.
August 2009 Congratulations to Prof. Gernot Frenking, Marburg, Germany, on receiving the 2009 Schrödinger Medal of the World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists (WATOC)! The Schrödinger Medal is probably the highest honor that is available to researchers in the field.
August 2009 Anna Pomogaeva, former group member, has recently completed her Ph.D. in Japan. Congratulations!
July 27, 2009 Congratulations to Robel for successfully defending his M.Sc. thesis today!
July 27, 2009 Robel's thesis defense is scheduled for July 27 − good luck, Robel!
May 2009 The new LINUX cluster is almost up and running; I plan to post some pictures. Thank you to Grigory for building it.
May 2009 Akef's transfer into the Ph.D. program has been approved recently − congratulations!
March 4, 2009 I would like to welcome Samuel Odoh to the group who arrived this week. Samuel will formally start his Ph.D. studies on May 1. Welcome to the Canadian West, Samuel!
