Inductively
Coupled Plasma Optical Emmision Spectrometer
(ICP-OES)
Hard water is
usually associated with ground
water, usually from a well, and
usually contains a high level of
dissolved minerals. Minerals such
as iron,
magnesium and calcium
usually are associated with "hardness" in
water. The mineral content
of water can be analysed
to determine the level of hardness
but also to determine if
their are metal
ions,like lead,that could be
toxic.
The
ICP-OES instrument
can analyse
over 70 elements.
The instrument can
analyse multiple
elements in
one run.
An
autosampler provides
the instrument
with a new
sample every 3
to 5 min. making
it possible
to analyse
many samples
at a
reasonable
cost.
