In the past, engineers' simulation-based design consisted of running simulation cases one at a time, examining the results, re-adjusting the system parameters,
and running even more simulations with the objective of improving the design. This can be a very laborious process. The IRC has been at the forefront of developing supervisory algorithms that replace
the human user to automatically adjust the system parameters and conduct a sequence of simulation runs, with the aim of improving the design or automatically generating other useful information about the power system.
