The McKenna Lab is thrilled to report that we received 5 years of funding from the NSERC Discovery Grant Program to support our research investigating regulation of pattern recognition receptors by viral and endogenous RNA.

Congrats to McKenna Lab alumni Dr. Trushar Patel for being awarded the 2021 Biophysical Society of Canada Young Investigator Award! Trushar receives the award based on his fantastic progress as a Tier 2 CRC at the University of Lethbridge investigating the interaction of viral nucleic acids with host proteins.

Danny Gussakovsky was awarded the Women's Health Research Foundation of Canada graduate scholarship for his work related to the study of a non-coding RNA important in ovarian cancer. Congrats Danny!

Congrats to current undergraduate researcher (and future McKenna Lab Ph.D. student) Daniel Gussakovsky for receiving the B.Sc. Honours Faculty of Science Medal and the Society of Chemistry Industry Merit Award!

Congrats to former McKenna Lab member Dr. Ewan McRae on being awarded a University of Manitoba Distinguished Dissertation Award, given annually for graduate students for "groundbreaking novel contributions to their academic discipline". Ewan is currently pursuing his postdoctoral studies at the iNano Institute in Aarhus, Denmark.

Daniel Gussakovsky, and undergraduate student in the McKenna Lab, was recently awarded an NSERC CGS-M to start his graduate work in the lab starting in September. Congrats Daniel!
