BC200 processing paper published in RNA Journal

In collaboration with Dr. Mark Nachtigal from Biochemistry & Medical Genetics at the University of Manitoba, work from our group led by Dr. Evan Booy describing the processing of a non-coding RNA, BC200, into a stable Alu monomer with relevance to Ovarian cancer was accepted in RNA Journal.

OAS review published

Congrats to former McKenna Lab members Amit, Lok, and Nikki who published a comprehensive review on 2'-5'-oligoadenylate syntheses in Biochemistry & Cell Biology

Collaboration with the Kuss lab published in PNAS!

Congrats to Evan on his work with the Sabine Kuss Lab at the University of Manitoba recently published at PNAS investigating cytochrome c oxidase deficiency detection!

Platinum Anticancer Complexes

Check out our collaborative work with the Herbert Lab at the University of Manitoba investigating photoactive anticancer complexes here!

Non-coding RNA publication

Congrats to group member Daniel Gussakovsky on publication of his paper RNA Journal explaining regulation of specific Alu RNA expression by the SRP9/SRP14 heterodimer. Check out Daniel's work here.

Alu RNA Review Published

Congrats to group member Daniel Gussakovsky on publication of his review in RNA Biology providing an overview Alu RNA in human disease states. Check out Daniel's work here.

Mathematical modelling of innate immunity enzymes

Congrats to Amit Koul and Nikhat Lubna on their collaborative work in AIMS Mathematics with the Portet Group in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Manitoba. The Portet group was able to suggest plausible models for the response of OAS2 to RNA cofactor length based on their mathematical modelling of OAS2 enzyme kinetics data.

Quadruplex prediction published in Biochemistry & Cell Biology

Congrats to Danny, Steve, and Mira on their joint publication with the Hausner Group (Microbiology, University of Manitoba) detailing a bioinformatic approach to predict novel RNA quadruplex helicases in Biochemistry & Cell Biology!

Non-coding RNA BC200 regulates translation in tumour cells

Check out our recent work in the Journal of Biological Chemistry detailing the role of BC200, a non-coding RNA, in the regulation of protein translation. See here for the PDF preprint.

McKenna Lab contributes structural work to the study of inflammatory diseases

Congrats to Dr. Edis Dzananovic on having work from his Ph.D. studies in the McKenna Lab published in iScience this week. Edis determined solution conformations of proteins in the presence an absence of small molecules to help understand their function in the inflammatory response. https://www.cell.com/iscience/fulltext/S2589-0042(20)30623-4
