About Me
Greetings! My name is Rajesh Manchanda, but more casually
my friends call me Raj. I was born and brought up in Bombay,
India. In 1989 I moved to the United States to undertake
graduate studies in Advertising, and I have been living
in North America ever since.
I joined the University in Manitoba in 1997 and have been
teaching Introduction to Marketing and Integrated Marketing
Communications at the undergraduate level. I also teach
Consumer Behavior at the MBA and Ph.D levels Before joining
the University of Manitoba I taught Advertising and Promotions
Management at theUniversity of Illinois, which is where
I spent a great many years! (I received my Ph.D. in Marketing
and M.S. in Advertising at Illinois). I also have an MBA
and B. Com. from the University of Bombay.
In addition to my many (seemingly
endless) years in school, I have worked internationally
in the field of marketing and advertising. I have worked
at the Kellogg Company in Michigan, the Procter and Gamble
Company, and the J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency in
Bombay, and had a short stint as an AISEC trainee in Poland.
At Kelloggs my responsibilities included the marketing
of kids cereals. Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, Coco Krispies,
Fruity Marshmallow Krispies and Frosted Krispies were brands
that I was entrusted with.
My research focuses on understanding
consumer affect (particularly negative affect such as feelings
of embarrassment, guilt etc) in consumption. I am also interested
in understanding consumers responses to promotions and pricing
strategies.
When I am not in the office,
I can be found at the golf course, soccerfields, or at home
playing with my 2 and a half year old son, Nalin. I love
sports, eating all kinds of different foods, and spending
time with my friends and family.
